Quick backstory – I’ve been doing a photo-a-day challenge for 365 days on Instagram (@grayandivory) since my birthday in February. While taking photos every day, it’s often that I have plenty of extra photos that aren’t chosen as “the one” for the day. Previously, I’ve been posting those extra photos (or what I like to call “+”) on this website in a 10 day batch. But! For some reason I never thought about posting the actual photo of the day on here, until now! So I will be making an individual post for my “Photo of the day” photos on here in groupings of 10. And share a little bit about what was happening with each photo.

1/365 – 2.28.21

Chef Paul’s Cafe

Finally got to eat at Chef Paul’s for the first time for my non-birthday! The food was outstanding, this photo – not so much. I had seen some trick about doing photos from your phone this way, but it turned out super warped. So not the best photo, but the first of my 365 day challenge.

2/365 – 3.1.21

Disquiet

My husband had received unfortunate news on his father’s health, and spent the day waiting for the outcome of an emergent surgery. I don’t want to share everything I wrote that day as I was cataloguing these photos, but the words, “I feel tense” defines the moment.

3/365 – 3.2.21

Relief

Shot with iPhone 11 Pro; edited in camera app; Fresno, CA

My husband got his first Covid 19 vaccine shot. And I am thankful and grateful to have some ease of mind that I won’t accidentally get him sick from my line of work.

4/365 – 3.3.21

Downtown Fresno

Shot with Canon Rebel T2i, edited in photoshop/lightroom; Tokyo Gardens – Downtown Fresno, CA

One of my favorite little spots in Downtown Fresno. Tokyo Gardens resides in my mind as the “it’s going to be a good time” type of place. From live music to a chill evening in a quiet booth, you can count on the owners to be overwhelmingly friendly, funny, and ready to serve another drink. Plus – before quarantine, I used to love watching my husband play jazz at this little venue. It’s a treasure.

5/365 – 3.4.21

New Life

New budding leaves on the tree in my backyard. Nice to see spring start making an entrance.

6.365 – 3.5.21

Drip

Candle wax dripping out of lamp onto the cement below. I really love the colors in this photograph. The whites are clear white without being blown out, and the blacks are gorgeous and deep as well.

7.365 – 3.6.21

Slidin

Michelle Garcia (@mikiskates76) sliding on the coping with her Moxi Jacks and CIB sliders. I got so many shots from this day that I thought were fantastic! And then when I turned some of them into black and white photography, I was stoked even more! Action shots are hard, but man when they turn out – it’s all so worth it.

8/365 – 3.7.21

Cut Short

My father in law passed away this day. I didn’t feel up to go take photos somewhere, so backyard grass and working on “bokeh” effect sufficed.

9/365 – 3.8.21

Pandemic Funeral

Shot with iPhone 11 Pro; edited in camera app; Fresno, CA

My husband sitting in his office for a zoom funeral service for his dad. It was a beautiful service with many stories shared, but wow…the times of a pandemic quarantine is incredibly difficult.

10/365 – 3.9.21

Blossoms

My neighbor’s beautiful blossoming tree of white with an intense blue sky.
